Some years ago, the Nine Ways of Knowing were reviewed and clarified by Barnard's Committee on Instruction, and two of the categories were changed accordingly. Because many online resources are comprehensive, you will sometimes see references to General Education Requirements that apply to previous generations of students.

So when you look at the list of classes that fulfill General Education Requirements, be sure to look at the lists of courses approved to fulfill "Ethics and Values" (not "Reason and Value") and "Social Analysis 2" (not "Social Analysis") when looking at the list of Current Courses Satisfying General Education Requirements or the Comprehensive List of Courses Satisfying General Education Requirements.  As always, you can also play this game.

Due to a technical issue, many limited-enrollment courses ("L-courses") were mistakenly coded as open-enrollment courses.  If you added one of these courses (e.g. a language course, a science lab, etc.) earlier this week, it may have briefly appeared in your spring 2016 program.  All of these courses have now been removed from your spring program and are now waiting in L-course area below the open-enrollment add/drop window.  This has been done equitably across the board, so no individual student will have unearned priority or disadvantage in adding limited-enrollment courses.

Because of this, be sure to check your L-course box and add any L-courses there during one of your listed L-course times.  Questions?  Contact the Registrar.

Dear First Year Students,

As of Spring 2015 Barnard students are no longer provided with LionMail accounts from Columbia. Some of you may have noticed that, in spite of this, a LionMail account was created for you when your Columbia UNI was first created over the summer. Unfortunately this was done in error, and these accounts will need to be closed out.  We are working with CUIT to make sure this impacts you as little as possible.

Here’s what will happen:
- On Friday, Nov. 13your UNI@columbia.edu email address will be set to forward toyour gBear email (unless you have already set up forwarding to another account).   So, after that day, any NEW email sent to you at UNI@columbia.edu will automatically be delivered to your gBear account.
- On Tuesday, Nov. 17, any mail that was already in your LionMail account will be migrated into your gBear inbox.
- On Friday, Nov. 20, all LionMail accounts that were created for Barnard first-yearstudents will be disabled.

If you haven’t been using your LionMail account, or if you only have email in it, you don’t have to do anything!  If you have created any Google Docs inside your LionMail account, though, please contact BCIT Student Computing for help moving those to your gBear account.

We apologize for the confusion and any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions or concerns about this work, please contact BCIT StudentComputing at 212-851-9100 or help@barnard.edu

Best,
Victoria Swann
